Adieu ZettaScale
Adieu, ZettaScale
Yes, that’s right: adieu, ZettaScale.
In 2020, I co-founded the ZettaScale spin-off with a clear conviction: the future of computing would be distributed, autonomous, open, and able to seamlessly span the entire cloud-to-device continuum.
We did not set out to build just another technology company.
We set out to build a category.
Over the past few years, I had the privilege of assembling an exceptional team and helping transform Zenoh from a bold research project into an industrial-strength framework powering advanced systems across some of the most innovative technology companies in the world.
During my tenure, Zenoh established itself as a reference in robotics and became the first non-DDS Tier-1 RMW in ROS 2 — a historic milestone for the ROS ecosystem and a strong signal that the industry was ready for a new generation of communication middleware.
ZettaScale was recognized as V2X Company of the Year in both 2023 and 2024, awarded Best Cloud-to-Device Continuum Platform in 2023, and I had the honour of being named Tech CEO of the Year 2023.
These recognitions were not just awards. They were proof that deep technology, open innovation, and a focused team can challenge established paradigms and stand shoulder to shoulder with the giants of the industry.
At ZettaScale, I believe we proved that things can be done differently: with strong ethical values, long-term relationships, competence, trust, and the determination to go the extra mile for our partners and customers.
I have now decided to take my exit from ZettaScale because, over time, my vision for the future of the company became increasingly misaligned with that of the other shareholders. It is time to close this chapter with pride and begin the next one with full conviction.
My sincere thanks go to all the Zettlers with whom I shared this journey, and to all the partners, customers, and collaborators who helped turn a vision into reality.
A special thank you to the Eclipse Foundation, Google / Intrinsic, and the many other outstanding companies and organizations I cannot necessarily name for confidentiality reasons.
Regarding Eclipse Zenoh, let me be absolutely clear: I will continue to serve as Project Lead. Zenoh was never just a product. It was, and remains, a technological movement. Its mission is bigger than any single company, and I will make sure that your favourite protocol continues to grow, evolve, and thrive.
The next chapter starts now.
Ciao!
